Hold the House OR A Woman's Place is in the House

Hey Dem Gals! We need to stick together. I've got a friend in the 94th District who needs YOUR help. She's Pam McIntyre Smith from Middleton. (That's her on the left.)You may know this district has been held by the do-nothing-but-take-credit-for-everything Republican Delores Gresham. Well, this time the do-nothing is vacating her seat to run for Sen. John Wilder's seat. That leaves District 94 wide open and very winnable by a Democrat. Let's fill that seat with a Dem Woman!

The Republicans say they are "poised to take the House". Let's prove them WRONG. Delores' hand-picked successor is Barrett Rich--a 30 year-old insurance salesman, former state trooper who was fired from the governor's security detail. Rumors have it that he was frequenting a Nashville strip club while on duty. Now, you may think this is an easy win. But not so, for these reasons:

  1. This district is made up Fayette Co., the southern tip of Tipton Co. and a small part of Hardeman Co. FAYETTE Co. is the prize. If you win Fayette, you win. Rich is from Fayette, which BTW tends to be 60-40 Republican. In fact, that is the demographic for the entire district.

  2. Rich has money, and support from Republicans, and he is known in Fayette Co.

So, what does this mean? Pam needs your help, your support, your money. She is a single parent now with a daughter in college, and you know how difficult that can be. You may say you are not from District 94, but we Dems have got to hold the House. Please contribute to her campaign. Mail contributions to: Pam McIntyre Smith for TN House, P. O. Box 372, Middleton, TN 38052.

Pam's website is currently under construction, but I have copied her announcement below:

I am Pam McIntyre Smith and I want to be your state representative from the 94th District. A native of Middleton, five generations of my family have lived on or near the Hatchie River. I was reared by my grandparents, Arnold and Margie Bodiford. The Bodifords brought me up in the First Baptist Church in Middleton, gave me a faith to live by and taught me by example, to put that faith into action. That is why I am running for state representative. I share your values and concerns. I am one of you and I believe I can make a difference.

After graduating from Middleton High School with honors, I attended the University of Memphis where I earned a B. A. degree with majors in English and Education. I taught school for several years to support our family while my husband attended medical school. I then focused on rearing our two children while serving as the financial officer for his medical practice. My life experience as a homemaker, a teacher, a business professional, a community leader, and now as a single parent of a college age daughter, uniquely qualifies me to serve as your state representative.

Since returning “home” to West Tennessee in 2001, I have been active in my community. I initiated a “Keep Tennessee Beautiful” grant proposal to Hardeman County Mayor Willie Spencer. I am active in the Lion’s Club, and am a member of Immanuel Episcopal Church in LaGrange. I have also been credentialed as a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Mediator and have worked with Rep. John Deberry, Chairman of the Tennessee House Children and Family Affairs Committee, to promote legislation that will benefit victims of broken families.

As your state representative, I will work with Governor Bredesen to promote a fiscally responsible agenda that will address the “bread and butter” issues important to all of us while maintaining a balanced budget. Expanding and improving public education from pre-K through college is a top priority. This will ensure that there will be a skilled workforce to meet the demands of employers in our district, and it will bring more and better paying jobs. Our hard working people need to be able to provide for their families. And, I will promote affordable healthcare and medicine for our citizens.

You are my first priority. I will be your link to the state government and will carry your concerns to Nashville. Together we can find superior solutions to the problems that face us and ensure a government that is accountable to the people. I ask all of you who share my values and vision for your support and vote in the August 7 Democratic Primary and in the November 4 General Election. Let me work for you. I am a leader you can trust.
